May's free family music program sponsored by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will be presented on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the library’s community room. It will feature The TubaFours, with Frank Baker and Paul Henkart playing tenor tubas or euphoniums, and Jim Hooper and Bill Riddell playing bass tubas. Their program will include John Philip Sousa’s Washington Post March, The Pink Panther, Sixteen Tons, The Wabash Cannon Ball, Mozart’s Eine Kliene Nachtmusik, Rossini’s William Tell Overture, and Sea Tubas, a unique medley of sea chanteys. There are two meetings this week to review the One Paseo Draft Environmental Report (DEIR): The Carmel Valley Recreation Council will meet on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the Carmel Valley Recreation Center to discuss the Recreation Element of the DEIR. This will only deal with how the project will impact local parks and sports groups. The Planning Board's Regional Issues Subcommittee will meet on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 4:30 to 6:00 pm at the Carmel Valley Library to discuss the full DEIR.

From the San Diego County Sherrif's Department, "It’s time to clean out your medicine cabinet and get rid of old and unwanted prescription drugs. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department will collect and safely dispose unwanted or expired medicines as part of the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA) fourth National Prescription Drug Take Back Day." This gets drugs out of the community, away from children and teens, and keeps the chemicals out of the landfills and oceans. Solana Pacific Elementary School is holding a free eWaste recycling event on Saturday, April 7, 2012 10am-2pm. Sponsored by Councilmember Sherri Lightner, Friends of Carmel Valley Library, Coldwell Banker, and Solana Pacific Elementary School, the event allows local residents to properly dispose of electronic waste. Electronics contain harmful chemicals that if thrown into the landfill can contaminate our water supplies. The two local City Recreation Centers will hold their Spring Egg Hunts on Saturday, April 7, 2012 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. The Carmel Valley Egg Hunt will be at the Recreation Center, located at 3777 Townsgate Dr. (Egg Hunt Times: 0-2 years at 9:30am; 3-4 years at 9:45am; 5-6 years at 10:00am; 7-8 years at 10:15am; and 9 years & up at 10:30am). The Ocean Air Egg Hunt will be held at Torrey Hills Park, located at 4262 Calle Mejillones (Egg Hunt Times: 0-2 years at 9:30am; 3-5 years at 9:40am; 6-8 years at 9:50am; and 9 years & up at 10:00am). For both events, be sure to arrive on time and bring your own basket and camera!
A special free family music program in April sponsored by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will be presented on Wednesday, April 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the library’s community room. It will feature Japanese Chorus Kaguya (Kah-goo-yah), a group of individuals who love to sing Japanese songs with a harmony of voices and hearts. Its program will include old and new songs, all of which have been popular in schools and homes for many years. Some are beloved traditional folk songs, and some are recent pop songs. Musical instruments will accompany a few of the songs including percussion for Kaze ni Naritai (I Want to be Wind). All songs will be introduced in English, and no Japanese knowledge is necessary to enjoy the performance. The program will last 45 minutes.
