There will be a Pacific Highlands Ranch (PHR) Maintenance Assessment District (MAD) meeting on Thursday July 8 at 7 pm at the Airoso rec center (6135 Galante Place San Diego, CA 92130). The meeting will be in the media room (the smaller one to the left once you enter the main entrance). The MAD meetings are to discuss landscape maintenance in the public areas (street medians, etc.) of the community.

The Proposition M Exploratory Subcommittee is considering the idea that the future development of Pacific Highlands Ranch should be disconnected from the implementation of the I-5 to SR-56 freeway ramps. The current law requires that the ramps be built before additional development takes place. The next subcommittee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, 4 May 2010, 6 pm at the Airoso Clubhouse, 6135 Galante Place, off the Village Loop Road near Canyon Crest Academy (click here for a map link). The agenda topic is to finalize a report of the subcommittee on how to approach a potential change to Proposition M.

The Canyon Crest Academy ASB will be holding its 2nd Annual Canyon Crest Academy Swap Meet on Saturday December 5th, 2009, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the CCA Parking Lot (5951 Village Center Loop Road, San Diego, CA 92130). The next Pacific Highlands Ranch (PHR) Maintenance Assessment District (MAD) meeting is on November 13th, 2009 at 8:00 am at the Airoso rec center (6135 Galante Place, off the Village Loop Road near Canyon Crest Academy). The agenda will include the PHR Urban Amenity trail, and PHR parks.

The Pacific Highlands Ranch Maintenance Assessment District Subcommittee meeting regularly scheduled for Thursday, September 17, 2009 has been canceled. The meeting has been rescheduled to Thursday, October 8, 7:00 PM at the Airoso community room in Pacific Highlands Ranch.

Aaron Johnson has organized a Neighborhood Watch Program in the Pacific Highlands Ranch community (the area around Canyon Crest Academy.) They’ve just launched a new website, the Pacific Highlands Ranch Neighborhood Watch site (www.cvnwp.com). Looking at the site, it appears to include Carmel Valley. If you’re interested in Neighborhood Watch information, crime statistics and the like, give it a look!

The Pacific Highlands Ranch (PHR) Maintenance Assessment District (MAD) subcommittee of the Carmel Valley Community Planning Board will meet on Thursday, June 18 to discuss issues related to the PHR MAD. The address is 6135 Galante Place, San Diego, CA 92130 (Past Canyon Crest Academy at the end of Village Center Loop Road). The group maintains medians and landscaping in the PHR community.

Time Magazine has a good article called, “Was the Alarm over Swine Flu Justified?”. As the World Health Organization (WHO) prepares to declare this a “pandemic”, we should remember this from the article:

…it’s important to understand that pandemic does not necessarily equal apocalypse. A pandemic occurs when a new flu virus emerges and starts spreading easily from person to person, and then from country to country… A pandemic doesn’t mean that the new virus is unusually deadly, only that it spreads easily…

So, when the WHO says, “pandemic”, they really mean the disease has spread worldwide, not that it’s been a global killer. I’m not saying we shouldn’t be on alert, but given Flu Experts are Encouraged by the Strains Mildness, perhaps we don’t need to panic just yet.

The Pacific Highlands Ranch (PHR) Maintenance Assessment District (MAD) Subcommittee will meet on Wednesday, December 17 at 6:30 PM at the Carmel Valley Recreation Center to discuss next year’s budget. A Maintenance District is like a community-wide homeowners association which maintains planted areas in the area (usually these are related to parks, street frontage and medians).

Residents of Pacific Highlands Ranch (PHR) and Carmel Valley (CV) who would like to be members of the Carmel Valley Community Planning Board (CVCPB): Elections for the two residential seats in PHR and five of the residential seats in CV are up for election in March 2009. Please attend the January CV Planning Board Meeting if you are interested (January 13, 7:00 PM at the Carmel Valley Library.) You must attend two meetings prior to the elections to be eligible.
