Pack up the family and join the fun at the year’s final Moonlight Movie event at Carmel Creek Park, 4260 Carmel Center Road on Saturday, August 28. The Carmel Valley Recreation Center Fall 2010 Program is now available online. Program registration for the fall begins on Saturday, September 11 at 9:00 AM, except for certain contracted programs that register online. Historically, only a few classes fill on the first day of registration, so you generally don’t have to arrive too early. On the other hand, a few classes do fill quickly (first come, first served.) Check with staff at the Rec Center, or read the program brochure for complete information.

The Carmel Valley Recreation Council meeting and the Carmel Valley North Maintenance Assessment District (MAD) Meetings for August have been canceled due to lack of agenda items. The next meetings of both groups will be on Tuesday, September 7 at the Carmel Valley Recreation Center.

The City of San Diego Website has a great page of maps that show all the open space parks in the City. You can visit the Open Space Canyons and Parklands Maps page to see information on Gonzales Canyon to our North, and Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve to our South. There is also a Main Open Space Parks page which has additional information on the parks, including programs, rules and information links. If you’re interested in the San Dieguito River Park, you’ll have to go to the River Park page, as the San Dieguito River Park is a joint project between the City of San Diego, County and a number of other cities in the area.

There will be a Pacific Highlands Ranch (PHR) Maintenance Assessment District (MAD) meeting on Thursday July 8 at 7 pm at the Airoso rec center (6135 Galante Place San Diego, CA 92130). The meeting will be in the media room (the smaller one to the left once you enter the main entrance). The MAD meetings are to discuss landscape maintenance in the public areas (street medians, etc.) of the community.

The Annual Carmel Valley Summer Serenades concerts in the parks start this Sunday, June 27 at 5:00 PM at Sage Canyon Park. The complete schedule includes:

• June 27 Sage Canyon Park Upstream (Reggae)
• July 11 Ashley Falls Park Atomic Groove (Variety Dance Band)
• July 18 Solana Highlands Park Corvettes (Best of the 50’s and 60’s)

Bring a blanket or low beach chair and enjoy an evening of wonderful music in the park! This is a great place to picnic, visit with neighbors, dance with your kids, or just enjoy the music. A message from the City about Torrey Highlands Park and the Dog Park: Torrey Highlands Park will be closed to vehicular traffic between June 7 and June 11, 2010 due to road work at the entrance of the park at Lansdale Drive. In addition, during the same period, the off-leash dog park will also be closed due to the retrofitting of the current irrigation system. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the park staff at (619)685-1335 between the hours of 7:00AM and 2:00PM. Thank you for your cooperation.
