September’s free family music program sponsored by The Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will be presented on Wed., Sept. 15th at 7:00 p.m. in the library’s community room. It will feature Duo Zelo in a program of contemporary Latin music. The performers will be flutist Joyce Hayutin and guitarist Anthony Cutietta. The program will last 45 minutes. Pack up the family and join the fun at the year’s final Moonlight Movie event at Carmel Creek Park, 4260 Carmel Center Road on Saturday, August 28. The last summer amphitheater concert of 2010 at the Del Mar Highlands Town Center will be on Saturday, July 31 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The concert will feature NRG, a Rock and Roll Dance Band. The Town Center Website says, “Put on your dancing shoes, grab your special someone and join the fun in the Amphitheater on Saturday evenings in July. Enjoy good food from one of our many eateries and restaurants during the concerts.” You can also visit the NRG Band website at nrgband.com.

The Del Mar Highlands Town Center will host a Concert this Saturday, July 17, featuring the Kevin Cameron Band (modern country western). 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the Amphitheater. Also, the LAST Summer Parks Concert of the year will be on Sunday, July 18! The Summer Serenades concert will feature the Corvettes (Best of the 50’s and 60’s) at Solana Highlands Park (High Bluff off of Del Mar Heights Road.) Bring a blanket or low beach chair and enjoy an evening of wonderful music in the park!

The Del Mar Highlands Town Center (www.delmarhighlandstowncenter.com) will hold its concerts on July 10, July 17, July 24 and July 31. Now on Saturday evenings, 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the amphitheater.
The Del Mar Powerhouse Park Concerts are on July 20 at 7:00 PM, August 17 at 7:00 PM, and September 12 at 5:00 PM.
The Annual Carmel Valley Summer Serenades concerts in the parks start this Sunday, June 27 at 5:00 PM at Sage Canyon Park. The complete schedule includes:

There are two free concerts at the CV Library in March: “Piano for Two” on March 10, and “Odyssey” on March 24. Piano for Two will feature pianists Eunice Williams and Naomi Hobbs in a program of music by Leroy Anderson, Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, Franz Liszt, Astor Piazzolla, and John Williams. Odyssey, at 7:00 PM on March 24, will feature the Odyssey a singing group who will take you on a musical journey with a mix of Broadway, 50s doo-wop, contemporary pop, and patriotic songs. The Friends of the Carmel Valley Library are sponsoring a special free family music program on Sat., Jan 30th at 10:00 a.m. in the library’s community room. It will feature Ling Jing, Danielle Nguyen, Alisa San Vicente, and Andrew Bustamante, advanced flute students of Elena Yarritu, performing works by Bohuslav Martinu, Antonio Vivaldi, Otar Taktakishvili, and Sergei Prokofiev. I happen to be involved with Canyon Crest Academy, so it’s easy for me to post their events. However, other schools are holding events, too! For instance, I see Torrey Pines High School is holding their Holiday Boutique on December 5th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The event is on campus in Building B (Upper Level Mezzanine) and includes 30+ vendors: body care, womens shoes, clothing/t-shirts, jeans, belts, purses & accessories, jewelry, stationery, baby gifts & more, more, more… Don’t miss it! Here’s a fun (and Free!) holiday event: the Campanile Ringers, the Clairemont Lutheran Church’s hand-bell choir, will perform a program of traditional winter holiday music at the CV Library on Wednesday, December 9. The program is at 7:00 PM in the library’s community room. The Ringers have been performing in the San Diego area for over 20 years. They are composed of 13 ringers and are directed by Gary Jaus.

The City of San Diego is facing a 179 Million Dollar deficit for Fiscal 2011. Fixing this could lead to huge cuts in services.
