When it rains…

Filed under: Community, Park & Rec — ken @ 2:40 pm

I know it hardly ever rains here, but when it does many parks and trails close down so that they don’t get damaged. The sports fields in the community are closed, as are the trails in the local open space. You can check if the open space trails are open at the Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve CAC Message Board on Yahoo! Groups. There isn’t any local equivalent for the local sports fields, but if they’re muddy, then they’re probably closed.

Using Our Open Space

Filed under: Community, Park & Rec — ken @ 2:30 pm

We live adjacent to many beautiful wildlife preserves - canyons and mesas designed to protect a number of species of plants and animals. These areas include Carmel Mountain (the mesa south of SR-56 with trail access off of East Ocean Air Drive), the San Dieguito River Valley to the north and Los Penasquitos Canyon to the south. Remember, these areas are for hiking, biking and equestrian use on existing trails only. Motorized vehicles are not permitted, and you certainly aren’t allowed to bring in shovels and build BMX courses for bicycles! (Yes, people actually did this!) Please, try to leave the areas as you found them. Thanks!
