A report from the Energy Department indicates that gas prices will remain above $4 for some time. Actually, the report indicated that gas prices would remain near $4 through next year. I don’t know about you, but I think $4 gas would be a relief (the Del Mar Heights Shell station is now selling $5 gas!) Current expectations are that gas prices will peak in August, so we’re not at the top, yet. You can still find prices below $4.40 if you hunt for them (see SanDiegoGasPrices.com for possible locations.)

There will be another Community Forum with the local Police to discuss crime, traffic and safety issues in the community. It will be on Thursday, June 26 at 6:30 PM at the Carmel Valley Recreation Center. This is a great opportunity to voice your concerns and meet with the top “brass†of the local station (Northwestern Division).

I read in the Union-Tribune (see US Open Traffic story) that the commuter lanes on I-5 from Via de la Valley northward would be opening today:
Caltrans expects to open two new car pool lanes on I-5 by tomorrow, between Via de la Valle in Del Mar and Manchester Avenue in Encinitas, just in time for the events.
This, along with four dollar gas, might finally reduce the northbound congestion on I-5 around Carmel Valley. Of course, it might mean more cars southbound…

The Rec Center Staff encourages everyone to show up at 9:00am, and not form a line early.
