A message from Gaylon Sells, our local SD Police Community Relations Officer, about two semi-local incidents (one in Torrey Highlands and one in Black Mountain Ranch) where burglars have attempted to enter homes while people were there. For everyone south of SR-56, expect to hear additional noise from the Miramar aircraft next week, as the Buick Invitational is in town. From the Marines:
At the request of the USGA and Torrey Pines Golf Course, operational activities will be altered to accommodate the 2009 Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines from Monday, February 2nd through Sunday, February 8th. We will modify our westerly departures and arrivals that week between 7 am to 5 pm. In addition, should the tournament require an additional day for a playoff, these procedures will also be in effect on Monday, February 9th.
The Feb 3 meeting of the CV Maintenance Assessment District Subcommittee has been canceled due to lack of agenda items. Next meeting in March.

Mayor Sanders has announced that the City will hold workshops to enable residents to learn more about potential water rationing. There is a possibility that water wholesalers may cut supplies by as much as 20% within the next few months. Such cuts could lead to water rationing in the City. Mayor Sanders says: (more…)

The Carmel Valley Recreation Center Online Gymnasium Schedule has been updated to include February. Remember that the Rec Center will be closed Monday, February 16 for Presidents’ Day.
February’s free family music program sponsored by The Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will be presented on Wed., Feb. 11th at 7:00 p.m. in the library’s community room. It will feature soprano Elisabeth Marti and guitarist Eric Foster performing Love Songs for Voice and Guitar, including works of Mauro Giuliani, Roberto Gerhard, Benjamin Britten, Heitor Villa-Lobos, and others. The U.S. Marine Corps is proposing that the new F-35B Joint Strike Fighter be based at MCAS Miramar and have created a website (www.usmcjsfwest.com) to provide information to the community. On Tuesday, February 3, 2009, there will be a public scoping meeting at the Mira Mesa Library to help in the preparation of an Environmental impact Statement (EIS):
The EIS will describe the potential environmental impacts of the proposed F-35B basing alternatives. The website provides information about the project alternatives, the EIS documents and schedule, and public involvement opportunities.

The Carmel Valley Community Planning Board’s MAD Subcommittee will meet on Tuesday to discuss next year’s budget. I suspect this will include the CV North MAD (North of SR-56) and the Neighborhood 10 MAD (South of SR-56, around Sage Canyon school.) The meeting will be at the Carmel Valley Recreation Center, 3777 Townsgate, at 4:30 PM.
