Swine Flu

Filed under: Community — ken @ 9:43 am

Looking for sources of information on Swine Flu? Here’s a roundup. Start with the CDC Swine Flu page. There is also a CDC Pandemic Flu page (don’t panic, the CDC’s definition of “pandemic” is about how widespread the disease is, not how deadly.) The World Health Organization has a page, as does the State of California. There is also a Google Map Swine Flu page (which has a lot more markers in California then there are actual cases), Don Parcher has a Flu Checklist updated with Swine Flu info, and the San Dieguito High School District has a Superintendent’s Message about the Flu. For the techie crowd, Wired magazine has a current Swine Flu Article, complete with links to Twitter feeds. The good news: we’re near the end of the flu season and the virus seems to respond well to treatment. Update: It turns out that all the local school district websites have information (San Dieguito, Del Mar, Solana Beach).

Filed under: Community — ken @ 7:34 am

Officer Gaylon Sells reminds us:

Hello everyone, I just wanted to send out a reminder regarding Northwestern Division’s second Open House which we will be hosting on Saturday, May 9, from ten am to twelve pm. We will have the following activities and demonstrations: a K-9 demonstration where the dog is sent after a “suspect” wearing a bite suit, our Mounted Enforcement Unit (horse patrol), various police vehicles, a SDPD helicopter fly-by, S.W.A.T. team with weapons display, historic SDPD vehicles, the opportunity to have your photo taken with an officer wearing a replica historic uniform, tours of the Station, and much more. The first event was a great success, and we would love to see this one be as successful. Thanks, Gaylon
