Summer Doldrums

Filed under: Community — ken @ 9:18 am

Every August, we have a bit of a lull in the community as families go on vacation and many groups cancel their meetings. I hope everyone is having a great summer and that you get an opportunity to relax before things pick up again in September.

The Surf Cup Soccer Tournament is back at the Polo Fields, July 25-27. Consider avoiding El Camino Real near Via de la Valle, as the traffic can be a mess…

First Summer Concert THIS Weekend!

Filed under: Community, Entertainment — ken @ 11:05 am

Every year, the Carmel Valley Summer Concerts roll around but nobody has heard they’re starting. Well, here’s you’re chance to catch the first one! It’s THIS SUNDAY, July 12, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Solana Highlands Park (High Bluff Drive near Del Mar Heights Road.)

That’s right, the Carmel Valley Recreation Council is proud to announce the 2009 Summer Serenades Concert Series. Four Sundays in July and August, the concerts bring back that small town atmosphere you’ve always loved - kids playing, people chatting, music on a lazy Sunday afternoon! Bring a blanket or low beach chairs, a picnic dinner and enjoy your evening!

  • July 12 Solana Highlands Park Shockwaves (Rock and Roll, 60’s - Today!)
  • July 19 Sage Canyon Park Corvettes (Best of the 50’s and 60’s)
  • July 26 Solana Highlands Park Upstream (Reggae)
  • August 2 Sage Canyon Park Atomic Groove (Variety Dance Band)

This is it, right now! Don’t miss your chance to enjoy these FREE Summer Concerts!

Aaron Johnson has organized a Neighborhood Watch Program in the Pacific Highlands Ranch community (the area around Canyon Crest Academy.) They’ve just launched a new website, the Pacific Highlands Ranch Neighborhood Watch site (www.cvnwp.com). Looking at the site, it appears to include Carmel Valley. If you’re interested in Neighborhood Watch information, crime statistics and the like, give it a look!

Pardee Grading Lots on July 15

Filed under: Community — ken @ 10:21 am

I hear from Laura Copic, our CV Planning Board Neighborhood 10 representative, that Pardee will begin grading the area at the corner of Carmel Country and Carmel Mountain Roads (near Sage Canyon Elementary) in preparation for building the approved luxury townhomes on 7/15. However, they do not yet intend to begin construction of the neighborhood commercial development approved for the front 4 acres of this site at this time. There’s a small hint that the residential market, at least for new townhomes, might be turning…
