Here’s something that happens even less often than once in a blue moon… New Year’s Eve in 2009 is also a full moon! If you follow the idea that the second full moon in a calendar month is a blue moon, well, then the year 2009 will end in a blue moon (with full moons on December 2 and December 31.) Of course, the Wikipedia Article on Blue Moons tells me that I’m relying on a misunderstanding of what a blue moon is, but that won’t stop me from enjoying it. So, ring out the old year with a bright, full moon and hopes that the new one will be better than the last!

Finally we get a good soaking (about 1.1 inches of rain), hope everyone is keeping dry. Now is a great time to turn off your outside sprinklers for a week or two (or three!) Not only do you save water, but you can also lower your sewer bill for next year by using less water over the winter months (the water department uses your winter water usage to calculate your sewer bill for the next year.)

I happen to be involved with Canyon Crest Academy, so it’s easy for me to post their events. However, other schools are holding events, too! For instance, I see Torrey Pines High School is holding their Holiday Boutique on December 5th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The event is on campus in Building B (Upper Level Mezzanine) and includes 30+ vendors: body care, womens shoes, clothing/t-shirts, jeans, belts, purses & accessories, jewelry, stationery, baby gifts & more, more, more… Don’t miss it! See the Torrey Pines High School Foundation page for complete details.
