March CV Library Concerts

There are two free concerts at the CV Library in March: “Piano for Two” on March 10, and “Odyssey” on March 24. Piano for Two will feature pianists Eunice Williams and Naomi Hobbs in a program of music by Leroy Anderson, Leonard Bernstein, George Gershwin, Franz Liszt, Astor Piazzolla, and John Williams. Odyssey, at 7:00 PM on March 24, will feature the Odyssey a singing group who will take you on a musical journey with a mix of Broadway, 50s doo-wop, contemporary pop, and patriotic songs. Suspect Trying To Lure Children?

From San Diego Police Officer Gaylon Sells:

There have been several recent instances of a Hispanic male in a white truck with gardening equipment following female juveniles. The first case occurred in Rancho Santa Fe on Feb. 12. The male was described as Hispanic, 40-50, thick trimmed mustache, black closely cropped hair with curls on top, wearing dark aviator or large round sunglasses. The vehicle was described as a white-colored work truck, possibly Toyota, with tinted windows, gardening-type tools in the bed, with ladders positioned vertically in the bed.

A similar instance has occurred in the area of Carmel Country Rd. and Cloverhurst. If anyone sees a similar driver following pedestrian(s) or acting suspiciously, please call SDPD’s non-emergency number of 858 484-3154 or 911 if you feel it is an immediate emergency.

Canyon Crest Academy Swap Meet

Canyon Crest Academy is having its second annual Spring Swap Meet on Saturday, April 17th, 2010 from 7:30 to 11:00 am.  Vendors, parents, students, and Clubs can purchase spots to sell items at the event. Vegan Cooking Show at the CV Library

There is a free vegan cooking show at the Carmel Valley Library on Sat, Feb 6, 2010 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm. For more info, see www.vegansandiego.com. In addition to cooking activity, there will be short video seminar on climate change, healthy food choices, free gift bags, book raffle, free foods.

Flute Master Class at the CV Library, Jan. 30

The Friends of the Carmel Valley Library are sponsoring a special free family music program on Sat., Jan 30th at 10:00 a.m. in the library’s community room. It will feature Ling Jing, Danielle Nguyen, Alisa San Vicente, and Andrew Bustamante, advanced flute students of Elena Yarritu, performing works by Bohuslav Martinu, Antonio Vivaldi, Otar Taktakishvili, and Sergei Prokofiev. They will be accompanied by pianist Diane Snodgrass. The program will last about 90 minutes. See the CV Library Concert Page for complete details.

CV Planning Board Elections

The Carmel Valley Community Planning Board (CVCPB) has set Tuesday, March 9, 2010 for its annual Board member election. Carmel Valley and Pacific Highlands Ranch (PHR) residents are being encouraged to run for one of eight seats up for election on the Planning Board.

The CVCPB is a group of elected volunteers who meet monthly to review and to evaluate proposed development plans and issues affecting the entire Carmel Valley and Pacific Highlands Ranch communities. Serving in an advisory capacity, the CVCPB offers specific comments, recommendations and decisions to the City of San Diego’s Department of City Planning & Community Investment, Plarming Commission and City Council. The CVCPB has direct involvement with city, county and law enforcement agencies.

The following seats are up for election (neighborhood maps are located at the CVCPB website):

  • Neighborhood 4/4A: Eastern Part of Carmel Valley, North of SR-56.
  • Neighborhood 7: North of Del Mar Heights Road, between El Camino Real and Glencliff.
  • Neighborhood 8: South of SR-56, immediately along the freeway.
  • Neighborhood 8A & 8B: South of SR-56, adjacent to Torrey Hills (from Carmel Mtn, West).
  • Neighborhood 9: South of Del Mar Heights Road, between El Camino Real and Carmel Country Rd.
  • PHR District II: Northern part of PHR, mostly north of Del Mar Heights Rd and Carmel Valley Rd.
  • Two Investor Seats: Individuals who are the sole or partial owner (or the owner’s designated representative) of real property of two or more acres within the community planning areas.
  • One Business Seat: Individual who is an owner, operator, or designee of a local business with a valid business license operating at a nonresidential real property address in the community planning areas.

Residential seats are for people who are at least 18 years old, currently living in Carmel Valley or PER, and reside in the seat’s district. In order to be an eligible candidate in the March election, the candidate must declare his or her intention to run for the seat and must have attended two complete meetings of the CVCPB’s last 12 meetings prior to the March election. Remaining CVCPB meetings to meet the attendance requirement are on Tuesday, January 12th and Tuesday,
February 9th at 7:00 p.m. in the Carmel Valley Library Community Room.
