Free Family Music at the CV Library, May 9, 2012

The TubaFours at the Carmel Valley LibraryMay's free family music program sponsored by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will be presented on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the library’s community room. It will feature The TubaFours, with Frank Baker and Paul Henkart playing tenor tubas or euphoniums, and Jim Hooper and Bill Riddell playing bass tubas. Their program will include John Philip Sousa’s Washington Post March, The Pink Panther, Sixteen Tons, The Wabash Cannon Ball, Mozart’s Eine Kliene Nachtmusik, Rossini’s William Tell Overture, and Sea Tubas, a unique medley of sea chanteys. A Second Free Music Event at the CV Library, April 18, 2012

Japanese ChorusA special free family music program in April sponsored by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will be presented on Wednesday, April 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the library’s community room. It will feature Japanese Chorus Kaguya (Kah-goo-yah), a group of individuals who love to sing Japanese songs with a harmony of voices and hearts. Its program will include old and new songs, all of which have been popular in schools and homes for many years. Some are beloved traditional folk songs, and some are recent pop songs. Musical instruments will accompany a few of the songs including percussion for Kaze ni Naritai (I Want to be Wind). All songs will be introduced in English, and no Japanese knowledge is necessary to enjoy the performance. The program will last 45 minutes. Allison TuckerApril's free family music program sponsored by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will be presented on Wednesday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the library’s community room. It will feature vocalist Allison Adams Tucker and pianist Danny Green in a musical walk through the history of jazz, a truly American original art form. It will highlight some of the classic jazz standards from its birth to the present -- from Al Jolson, Thelonius Monk, and Cole Porter to the modern day jazz masters. The program will last 45 minutes. CV Library Bargain Book Sale, March 31, 2012

On Saturday,  March 31, 2012 from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM, the Friends of Carmel Valley will hold a bargain book sale fundraiser to benefit the library. Proceeds will go to buy new materials for the library and to pay for children's programs, art and music programs. The book sale will take place in the Community Room of the Library. It will feature bargain books (cookbooks, children's books, mysteries, fiction, etc., etc.) priced to sell at only 4 for $1.00!

Leap Year Special: 2 Free Library Concerts in Feb, 2012

This February, we get 2 free concerts at the Carmel Valley Library, one on Feb. 8 and one on Feb. 29! The Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will present The Life and Music of Samuel Barber on Feb. 8. This program will explore the life and music of Samuel Barber, one of America’s greatest composers of art songs, with narration by Joanne Regenhardt, songs by soprano Janelle DeStefano, and piano accompaniment and solos by James Frimmer. Then on Feb. 29, pianist Michael Chang will perform works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Liszt, Lowell Liebermann, and Sergei Prokofiev.

Free Library Concert, Dec 14, 2011

The San Diego Jewish Women's Choir will perform at the Carmel Valley Library on Wednesday, Dec. 14th at 7:00 p.m. The program will include a mix of religious and secular songs in Hebrew, Ladino, Yiddish, and English. It will include songs for Hanukkah and end with Rogers and Hammerstein’s “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from Carousel and “Hatikvah,” Israel’s National Anthem. There will be two free concerts at the CV Library in November: on Nov. 9th at 7:00 pm, a Piano, Bassoon, and Flute Trio will perform music by C P E Bach, Beethoven, Casimir Lalliet, and Elaine Fine; then on Nov. 30th at 7:00 pm, pianist Dan Yu will perform a program of music by Mozart, Liszt, Schumann, and Chopin. CV Library Free Concert, New 2011-12 Season!

It's time for a new season of Free Family Music Programs at the CV Library, sponsored by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library!
