CV Library Summer Reading Program

Spend part of this summer reading, win prizes at the library! It's time for the San Diego Library's Summer Reading Program! Read books between June 15th and August 15th to win prizes at the library. Infants to teens (ages 0 - 18) may register online at www.sandiegolibrary.org to create their reading logs starting June 15th. Prizes will be distributed in the library from June 23rd until August 23rd as supplies last.

Atomic Groove at the CV Rec Center, July 13, 2014!

The Carmel Valley Recreation Council is in its 21th year of hosting the Summer Serenades Concert Series. The concerts are free to the public and we encourage you to bring your family and friends and enjoy an evening of music and dancing. Blankets, beach chairs, food and drinks are all part of the ambience that make these Sunday afternoon concerts fun for everyone!

First Concert: Sunday, July 13, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM

The concerts are held at the Carmel Valley Recreation Center (3777 Townsgate) in the Amphitheater by the parking lot, and are FREE to everyone. Additionally, this summer there will be two movies in the parks: Summer movies include "Monster's University" on June 28, and "Frozen" on August 23. Movies are also at the CV Rec Center, with the film shown at dusk (the movies are outdoors.)

CV Summer Park Concerts 2014

The Carmel Valley Recreation Council presents its 21st year of Summer Serenades Concerts. This year the lineup includes some favorites, something old and something new. There are even two summer movies in the parks! The concerts are free to the public and we encourage you to bring your family and friends and enjoy an evening of music and dancing. Blankets, beach chairs, food and drinks are all part of the ambience that make these Sunday afternoon concerts fun for everyone! All concerts are on Sundays, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Carmel Valley Recreation Center amphitheater. The first concert is on July 13, featuring Atomic Groove (Variety dance band.) The following weeks include the Clay Colton Band on July 20, NRG on July 27, Sue Palmer on August 3, and Upstream on August 10. Summer movies include "Monster's University" on June 28, and "Frozen" on August 23. Movies are also at the CV Rec Center, with the film shown at dusk (the movies are outdoors.)

CV Planning Board's Livability Subcommittee, June 2014

The Carmel Valley Community Planning Board has created a new subcommitte to discuss ways to make Carmel Valley more "livable". The next meeting of the Livability Subcommittee will be on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 6:30 pm at the Carmel Valley Rec Center. This meeting will be to identify areas of concern. CCA Robotics Summer Camp is filling up!

Interested in Robotics Summer Camp? This one's aimed at inspiring 5th/6th grade kids to pursue STEM subjects by introducing them to robotics over a week long camp. Campers build LEGO robots all week long and compete in daily competitions revolving around complete complex tasks with robots. They also help us to build a larger robot while learning valuable lesson about physics, electricity, and programming. The camp costs $400 per week, lasts from 9am-3pm each day, and lunch is provided. Pianist Anna Savvas at the CV Library on June 11, 2014

June's free family music program sponsored by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will be presented on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the library's community room. It will feature concert pianist Anna Savvas performing works of Mozart, Schumann, Chopin, and Ravel. The program will last 45 minutes. The Library is located at 3919 Townsgate Drive in Carmel Valley. UPDATE: The Carmel Valley Library cannot accept any gifts from May 20-June 2 due to re-carpeting. Please do not leave any gift books outside the building. Del Mar Highlands Town Center Survey, May 2014

The Del Mar Highlands Town Center is planning an expansion, adding new stores and a new parking structure down near Jimbo's. The expansion will include a larger Jimbo's, more movie screens, and a bunch of new stores. With that in mind, the center would like your opinion on what new retailers should be added! The Carmel Valley Branch Library will be CLOSED from May 24 through June 2, 2014 for RECARPETING. Re-opening Tuesday, June 3, 2014. The book drop will be open. Last day to pickup reserves at Carmel Valley Branch Library is May 23rd. From May 24 – June 2, 2014, reserves can be picked up at the North University Community Branch Library (8820 Judicial Drive, San Diego, CA 92122, (858) 581-9637 -- Take the 805 South to Miramar Rd. exit. Turn right on Nobel Dr. and take the first right onto Judicial Dr.) The Carmel Valley Branch Library staff looks forward to seeing you back at the Carmel Valley Branch Library after the recarpeting is completed. CV Planning Regional Issues on Town Center Expansion

The Regional Issues meeting for May will consist of a walk about the center to view the area proposed for a parking structure at Del Mar Highlands. This is an INFORMATIONAL ITEM and no vote will be taken. This is an observational meeting to see more clearly the town center’s next expansion phase, a parking garage and amenities on the Townsgate Dr., façade of the existing center. The applicant is applying for a “substantial conformance review” (SCR) permit. Meet at the mgmt. offices at the top of the stairs next to Tilly’s (at the far end of the 2nd floor from Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza. We will look at the project from Townsgate views as well. Meeting at the Del Mar Highlands Town Center Management Offices on Wed., May 7, 2014 --- 4:30-6:00 p.m.
 

SilverWood Flute and Piano Duo at the CV Library on May 14

May's free family music program sponsored by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will be presented on Wednesday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the library’s community room. It will feature SilverWood flutist Diane Wilson and pianist Vania Pimentel in a program of spirited and intense Brazilian music chronologically from the turn of the 19th century into the 20th century. It will include works by Brazilian composers Chiquinha Gonzaga, Pattapio Silva, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Osvaldo Lacerda, and Radames Gnatalli, as well as one by the Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla. The program will last 45 minutes. The Library is located at 3919 Townsgate Drive in Carmel Valley. CV Library Concert, April 9, 2014

April's free family music program sponsored by the Friends of the Carmel Valley Library will be presented on Wednesday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the library’s community room. It will feature the Bayou Brothers in a program of Cajun and Zydeco music. The Bayou Brothers started in 1995 with a shared love of Cajun and Zydeco music by founder John Chambers, on accordion and vocals, and Ric Lee laying down Zydeco and Cajun dance grooves on the drums. The group now includes Danny Perez on bass, Jack Stephens on guitar, and Sista' Judy on the Rubboard. Since 1995 the Bayou Brothers have been playing their music at festivals and concerts all over the southwest where they are well known for their rowdy shows and bluesy Zydeco. The program will last 45 minutes. The Library is located at 3919 Townsgate Drive in Carmel Valley. Opposition to Cell site at CV Library

There is a community group opposed to AT&T's intention to install a cell site at the Carmel Valley Library.
