David Alvarez at the CV Library, Jan 29, 2014

I received an announcement that David Alvarez is coming to listen to the issues that are important to local residents. He will be at the Carmel Valley Library this Wednesday, January 29 at 12:30. From the announcement:

San Diego mayoral candidate David Alvarez ran for office to make sure that members of every community are heard and to assure that every community receives the necessary services and infrastructure to provide a safe quality of life for all. As mayor, he is committed to regularly scheduled area meetings throughout the city to hear directly from residents and leaders about the issues that are important to them. You won't need a highly paid lobbyist to make your views known to David Alvarez.

Council member David Alvarez has demonstrated a principled stand on development. If the majority of residents have a position on a development in their area, he will stand with the community. This is what he has done on the Barrio Logan plan and what he did recently when he cast his vote in support of the residents of Santa Luz.

Drought: Water situation getting worse, Aug 2013

While we've had a couple of years of OK rainfall, California appears to be heading into fairly extreme drought conditions, and the long term forecasts are currently bad. You can check out the US Drought Monitor, which includes a Long Term Drought Prediction graphic. There's also the California Department of Water Resources, which manages a page of California Reservoir Graphs. Looking at the page, you can see that most major reservoirs are well below average capacity. If you click on the reservoir names, you'll get a detail graph for that location -- for instance, click here for the Lake Shasta graph. You'll see that the levels are low and are still falling fast. There have been no calls for conservation, but if we don't get some rain, they'll be coming soon.
