Crazy gas prices this weekend?

I've heard rumors about crazy gas prices over the next two weeks in Southern California due to refinery outages around the state. That is, there will likely be a temporary shortage of gas that could cause huge short-term price spikes and some stations running out. You might want to top off your tank and keep an eye on prices, using sites like San Diego Gas Prices (Gas Buddy). Note that I've also read that gas prices should be significantly lower by next month...

Rummage sale at St. Therese of Carmel Church, Oct 9, 2012

The 6th annual fundraising Rummage Sale organized by Boy Scout Troop 713 is on Saturday, 10/6 from 7:30-11am, at St. Therese of Carmel Church, located at 4355 Del Mar Trails Road, San Diego, CA 92130. They tell me that this year should be their biggest ever because the troop is now 100 families strong! Anyone wishing to donate items can bring them to the sale before 9am.

Robbery at 7-11, Del Mar Heights at Mango

The North County Times reports that a masked gunman robbed the 7-11 at the corner of Del Mar Heights Rd and Mango Drive during the early morning hours on Thursday, August 30, 2012. No one was injured. From the NCT Story, "Authorities described the suspect as Latino, 25 to 30 years old, wearing a black hoodie, black boots and a black bandana over his face. He fled on foot". Taste of Piazza Carmel

The Piazza Carmel shopping center is holding a "Taste of Piazza Carmel" evening on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. This will be an evening of food, music and community -- a chance to sample delicious cuisine from various restaurants located in the center. There event will include live music, a raffle, FREE kids crafts & face painting. Again? It must be hot! The California ISO (who run the electric grid) has issued another call for voluntary conservation efforts to reduce electric demand, through Wednesday, 8/15/2012 between the hours of 11:00 am and 6:00 pm. The requested changes are: Turn off unnecessary lights, postpone using appliances, and turn up your thermostat to 78 degrees. The heat is placing heavy demands on the electric grid, and small changes could help. See the California ISO status page or the FlexAlert Warning Page for details.

The California ISO (who run the electric grid) have called for voluntary conservation efforts to reduce electric demand today (Thursday, 8/9/12) between the hours of 11:00 am and 6:00 pm. (Update: Now extended through Sunday, 8/12/12.) The requested changes are: Turn off unnecessary lights, postpone using appliances, and turn up your thermostat to 78 degrees.
